Our Story
A small family farm growing clean, honest food for our Helena neighbors.
We're Jorae & John
It all started with a few tomato plants in our backyard. One season turned into two, a small garden grew into one that was expanded on each season that followed, and before long we were hauling produce to the Helena Farmers' Market every Saturday morning.
We moved to our most recent farm in the Helena Valley with a simple goal: grow great food without pesticides, herbicides, and with full flavor in mind. Montana's Zone 4 climate makes it a challenge — late frosts, short seasons, wild temperature swings — but we have learned, and are always improving, as we focus on growing flavorful local vegetables.
Today we grow many varieties for our CSA members, folks who stop by the market on Saturday mornings, and for our farmstand opening in 2026. Everything is picked fresh, never sprayed, and grown right here on our small farm in Helena.

What We Grow For You
Everything we grow is available through our CSA shares, farmstand, or at the Helena Farmers' Market. Here's what you'll find.
Carrots
Sweet, crunchy, and stored beautifully in our root cellar through the winter months.
Cut Flowers
Zinnias, sunflowers, dahlias, and wildflower mixes. Grown for beauty and available at U-Pick events.
Dried Beans
Pinto, black, and cranberry beans. Dried on the vine and threshed by hand for maximum flavor.
Green Chile
Our signature crop. Hatch-style green chile, grown and roasted right here in the Helena Valley.
Kale
Lacinato and curly varieties that actually get sweeter after a frost. A Zone 4 champion.
Potatoes
Yukon Gold, red, and fingerling varieties. Dug fresh and stored in our root cellar for winter sales.
Sweet Corn
Nothing beats Montana sweet corn picked the same morning. We grow it fresh for market and CSA boxes.
Tomatoes
Heirlooms, slicers, and cherry varieties. Sun-ripened on the vine — the way a tomato should taste.
Our Growing Practices
We're not certified organic, but we follow organic principles and go beyond them. Every decision starts with soil health, biodiversity, and producing the cleanest food possible.
No Synthetic Pesticides — Ever
We never use synthetic pesticides on our crops. We believe healthy soil and strong plants are the best defense.
No Herbicides — Ever
Weeds are managed by hand, mulch, and smothering. It's more work, but it means cleaner soil and safer produce for your family and ours!
Seed to Harvest Care
All of our plants are started right here on the farm, allowing us to select varieties that perform well in our climate and monitor quality from seed all the way to harvest.
Compost & Organic Matter
We return nutrients to the soil through compost and organic materials to keep the soil living and thriving year after year.
Short Season Growing Expertise
We carefully select varieties that perform well in our climate and use season extension tools like greenhouses to give plants the best possible start.
Family Run & Hands-On
Our crops are grown with close attention and care. We are involved in every step of the process because good quality local food matters to us!
