One of our favorite milestones of the growing season has officially arrivedβwe've started trellising tomatoes in our new greenhouse! Well... almost, we've been prepping the plants for trellising as the trellising system is in the mail.
After months of planning, building, planting, and caring for these plants, it's exciting to see the tomato plants thriving. The tomatoes are looking healthy, vigorous, and ready for the next stage of the season.
Trellising and pruning is an important part of growing tomatoes in a greenhouse. By training the plants upward, we can make better use of our growing space, improve airflow around the plants, and make harvesting much easier later in the season. It also helps keep the plants healthier by reducing disease pressure and allowing more sunlight to reach the leaves and developing fruit.
So for now we prune and prep the plants. Every year brings its own challenges, but seeing these tomatoes take off reminds us why we love growing food.
This is the first season growing in our large new greenhouse, and we're excited to see what it can produce. You may wonder why we are growing tomatoes and cucumbers inside a greenhouse and the reason is that we experience cold nights often during the growing season that would really stunt these plants if grown in the field.
Here's to a the hope of a great growing season and lots of delicious produce ahead!
